  My S will send in his application tomorrow. I would imagine it is excellent. A top school can't afford to far short in something like this. It would be very poor marketing.

  My son did a VSA program in 2010 (as a rising junior) and loved it. The course was interesting and the academic activities were of high quality, the instructors and assistants were very good, there were plenty of fun social events, good food and accomodations. An excellent way to learn about Vanderbilt, as well.

  D was a participant in '03 and S was a program assistant in '04. Both had good things to say. I saw a huge academic spark with D as she got to shine in a small group for a history class (as opposed to the 50+ in her AP History class). It seemed to be a wonderful opportunity to focus on smaller segments of content for real mastery of the material.
  S had worked for Duke the previous summer and had been a Duke program participant for 3 years in middle school and high school. He thought much more highly of this program than his experience as a program assistant at the Davidson site for the Duke program.

  IM SO GLAD SOMEONE ASKED THIS - doooo notttt do VSA (vanderbilt summer academy). I did it the summer after my sophomore year of high school and it was literally awful. The only plus was that I learned that I absolutely loved Vandy and now I'm a student here. But seriously, the program was awful. I went to sleep away camp for 8 summers before this and I hoped to have somewhat the same kind of culture there - DEFINITELY not. You get treated like a 5 year old, the classes are hard and not that they matter or anything but as potential vandy students lets be real here everyone wants an A, and the kids are.. well.. eh. They plan lots of fun activities and stuff but it feels more like an overnight daycare than a summer program.

  my son loved it last year and this caused him to apply to vandy. not the most academically intense program, but a great way to meet kids form all over the country. also the teacher was a vandy grad student and helped my son with an essay
